It's a collection of newsletters, so it's not like you can flip to the section on saving money on clothing and read the tips - instead you just have to read the whole thing and hope you don't forget that great tip you learned on page 140. For example, there are a lot of great tips on making scratch the things we buy at the grocery store, like bisquick and cream of chicken soup, but I can never find them when I need them, because they are mixed in with ideas for what to do with old pantyhose. I'm 30 and am both running a business and trying to be frugal. I'd like this book to be updatd for current times and reorganized, eliminating the fluffy suggestions which waste space and organizing tips into sections so I can find what I'm looking for. I'm a landscaper for goodness' sake, I have zero pantyhose in my life.So yeah - good tips, but outdated and poorly organized. Many of the ideas in this book seem meant more for people who do not earn any money outside the home, so for them, saving a couple dollars with a half hour of work is a good idea. For me, if I just worked another half hour I'd have more than a couple bucks.The book also has small print and poor organization.

It's jarring to realize how much the world has really changed since the early 1990's. I checked the book out from the library, but I don't ever want to give it back, so I guess it's time to buy. At over 900 pages it is a massive tome.
However the remaining 2/3 of the book consists of timeless concepts and ideas. I only dropped a star because at 900 pages, sifting through the outdated information to find the good information can be somewhat aggravating. You'll definitely learn something, and putting these concepts into action is half the fun.
This is an absolutely amazing book stuffed full of ideas and philosophies for thrift. The many articles that offer direct pricing comparisons or addresses to write for information are similarly obsolete. But keep in mind that even with 1/3 of the info being irrelevant, there are still a good 600 pages of non-stop awesomeness.
Sadly, in this day and age a good 1/3 of the information is outdated. Articles about things like letter writing, film in cameras, long distance calling service, mail-order catalogs, whether or not one should buy a computer etc etc are outdated and useless.
Though some of the information could be updated (like with web addresses instead of physical addresses) it is a necesity for anyone trying to learn and understand how to live within their income. This book is wonderful.
